Essential Functions
- Adheres to all safety regulations outlined in the Plant Employee Manual for the protection of personnel and facility integrity.
- Ensures punctuality and adherence to attendance policies as outlined in the Attendance Policy within the Plant Employee Manual.
- Cleans and inspects crane equipment and surrounding areas at the beginning of each shift.
- Communicates via two-way radio to coordinate with other crane operators for efficient coil location.
- Executes coil-cutting procedures as needed for sampling purposes.
- Attaches and manages inventory tags as part of inventory control processes.
- Delivers scheduled materials to designated staging or operational areas as specified.
- Moves processed coils to support packaging line operations when necessary.
- Transports materials for Shipping/Receiving/Material Handling as required.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Experience and Education
- A minimum of a high school diploma or GED is required.
- The successful candidate will demonstrate the capability to work safely and efficiently in a dynamic production environment.
- Physical requirements include the ability to lift to 50 pounds and sustain prolonged periods of standing on a concrete floor.
- Strong communication skills and teamwork are essential for effective collaboration within the team.
- Proficiency in utilizing tape measures, micrometers, and calipers.
- Valid forklift driver's license, with the ability to operate within specified capacities and conduct necessary inspections.
- Competence in operating and performing inspections on all overhead cranes within the facility.
- Familiarity with various lift devices such as ID lifters (skids), spreader bars, "C" hooks, sheet lifters, etc.
- Ability to effectively utilize Stratix Software.
Physical and Mental Requirements
- The role requires individuals to maintain prolonged periods of physical activity, including standing, walking, and operating machinery.
- Precision hand-eye coordination is essential for handling equipment and materials effectively, alongside the capability to lift, carry, and manipulate heavy items.
- Operators must demonstrate resilience in enduring repetitive tasks and sustaining focus over extended periods, while also possessing the ability to hear warning signals and communicate effectively amidst a noisy environment.
- Clear vision is crucial for inspecting materials and reading gauges accurately.
- Problem-solving skills are paramount for troubleshooting and resolving any issues that may arise during operations, requiring quick decision-making to optimize processes and minimize downtime.
Equipment, Aids, Tools
- Candidate should be eligible for a hi-lo license and possess proficiency in utilizing a range of tools and equipment, including calipers, tape measures, micrometers, hand tools, and plasma cutters.
- Familiarity with telecommunications, computers, and the operation of overhead cranes is required.
Working Conditions
- The primary work environment is within a steel manufacturing facility, which may include:
- Exposure to moving machinery, heavy equipment, and sharp objects.
- Work areas may be subject to fluctuating temperatures, including hot and cold conditions, dependent on the season.
- Loud noise from machinery and equipment operation.
- The presence of dust, debris, and airborne particles typical of an industrial setting.
- Adherence to strict safety protocols to mitigate risks associated with the manufacturing process.
Supervision and Co-workers/Attendance Requirements
- Supervision and/or co-worker assistance are readily available.
- Attendance is monitored, as unscheduled absences may jeopardize meeting customer requirements due to insufficient staffing.
Consequences if Essential Functions Not Performed
- Failure to follow established safety rules and procedures may result in loss of position or termination of employment.
- Failure to meet the requirements of the Attendance Policy will result in termination of employment.
- Failure to observe safety procedures in material handling may result in serious injury up to fatality and/or damage and loss of material or property.
- Failure to move material in a timely manner may result in production delays or customer delivery delays, which may in turn result in the loss of business.
- Failure to complete appropriate paperwork may result in inventory shortage through loss of material or improper billing of the customer.
- Improper storage of material may result in damage/loss of material.
Pay
- Steelsummit Holdings offers a starting salary of $50,540 per year for Crane Operators (3rd shift).
- For Packagers, the estimated annual salary ranges from $40,183 to $50,540 based on shifts worked.
