About the role

The Journeyman Crane Mechanic is responsible for the daily inspection, maintenance, repairs and rebuilds of lift equipment and cranes. This includes AC/DC Converters, VFD's (Variable Frequency Drives), Programmable logic controllers, Industrial Control Maintenance and Troubleshooting (low and high voltage), Maintenance of motor repair, to include Cummins Hybrid maintenance, trouble shooting, repair, CAN bus systems, Hydraulic systems, Welding / Fabrication 3G and 4G, and conducting on-site electrical, mechanical, structural, and electronic troubleshooting.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains, tests, and repairs low to high voltage electrical equipment, including circuits, transformers, high voltage switches, motor control centers.
  • Maintains and repairs hydraulic systems.
  • Reads, interprets, and assists in the design of electrical and electronic schematics, mechanical and instrumentation drawings, wiring diagrams, and construction drawings necessary to install, service, and repair equipment in accordance with related regulations and vendor specifications.
  • Conducts on-site electrical, mechanical, structural, and electronic troubleshooting to determine cause for equipment malfunction and establish the necessary repairs utilizing visual inspection, test procedures and appropriate test equipment.
  • Performs welding/fabrication tasks, including 3G and 4G certification.
  • Ensures the operational condition of machinery and mechanical equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements and repairs per manufacturer’s recommendations on equipment to ensure that it is safe and in compliance with all federal and state regulations.
  • Analyzes and diagnoses any potential malfunctions, defects, damage, or excessive wear.
  • Repairs or replaces any malfunctioning components, parts and other mechanical equipment and subassemblies.
  • Regularly tests overhauled equipment to ensure that it is operating efficiently.
  • Maintains company values, rules, policies, and procedures are met to fulfill the company mission, as well as productive relationships with customers and vendors.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by management and/or supervisor.

Qualifications

  • Vocational education, apprenticeship, or on-the-job training preferred.
  • Valid Driver’s License.
  • Knowledge of Hydraulics.
  • Knowledge of high-voltage gear.
  • Welding / Fabrication 3G 4G certified.
  • Experience with power and hand tools.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to coordinate with a variety of individuals.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.

Supervisory Responsibilities

No supervisory responsibilities.

Work Environment

  • Must be able to work in rotating shifts, days, evenings, and nights.
  • Must be able to work in extreme outdoor temperatures of hot and cold, extremely dusty conditions, and occasionally, conditions of high levels of noise.
  • The ability to work in an environment that may be hazardous to persons unable to see and hear fast-moving equipment.
  • Must be willing to join the Union.
