Valid Georgia driver’s license and Chlorofluorocarbons (CFC) Recovery license required. High-school diploma or equivalent plus HVAC technical training; 2 years of HVAC/refrigeration experience preferred.
Responsibilities
- Perform skilled installation, preventive maintenance, repairs, and operations of HVAC/refrigeration equipment, boilers, cooling towers, pumps/motors, chillers, chemical water-treatment systems, and direct-digital-control systems in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations and building codes.
- Diagnose and repair malfunctioning HVAC/refrigeration equipment and controls.
- Install HVAC/refrigeration equipment per code.
- Maintain and regulate HVAC/refrigeration equipment accurately.
- Record repairs made and parts used according to departmental guidelines.
- Utilize computers and handheld work-order/inventory-management devices efficiently.
- Account for all tools, parts, and equipment issued; maintain truck stock.
- Supervise private contractors when assigned.
- Plan and direct daily work schedules for appointed personnel.
- Monitor and enforce safe work procedures and building/safety codes.
- Train contractors and other district employees as needed.
- Coordinate with other trades and departmental personnel to complete assignments.
- Work after normal hours, be on-call for seven-day periods, and respond to 24/7 call-outs.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Skills
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions quickly and accurately.
- Effective and tactful communication with others.
- Proficiency in reading HVAC/refrigeration technical instructions and diagrams.
- Knowledge of HVAC/refrigeration codes, procedures, materials, and safety practices.
- Familiarity with desktop and portable computers.
Physical Demands
- Stand, walk, climb stairs/ladders, and reach with hands and arms for extended periods.
- Lift and transport up to 50 pounds over short distances.
- Operate a motor vehicle and manipulate tools and small items.
- Work in wide-ranging ambient temperature and humidity conditions, including overhead and confined spaces.
- Tolerate exposure to electricity, heat/noise-producing machinery, elevated equipment, and chemicals/solvents.
- Required vision abilities: close, distance, and color vision.
