Responsibilities

  • Prepare students for employment by teaching construction fundamentals, jobsite safety, tool usage, and industry best practices.
  • Deliver instruction in classroom, lab, or field-based settings, including evenings and weekends.
  • Teach construction-related skills such as jobsite safety, tool usage, materials handling, blueprint reading, and trade-specific concepts.
  • Create lesson plans, instructional materials, and hands-on learning activities.
  • Demonstrate safe and proper use of construction tools, equipment, and materials.
  • Evaluate student progress through assessments, projects, and skills demonstrations.
  • Maintain attendance, student records, and required program documentation.
  • Create a safe, organized, and productive learning environment.
  • Communicate regularly with CPS staff regarding course progress and student needs.
  • Maintain current knowledge of industry practices, safety standards, and workforce trends.
  • Participate in required instructor meetings, training, and professional development activities.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of full-time construction industry experience in one or more trades, including carpentry, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, masonry, general construction, or related fields.
  • Demonstrated experience using hand tools, power tools, construction drawings, rigging, materials handling techniques, and jobsite safety practices.
  • OSHA 10 certification.
  • In addition to the above, candidates must possess one of the following:
    • Completion of a registered apprenticeship;
    • Journeyworker status;
    • A relevant state-issued trade license (electrical, plumbing, HVAC, or related field);
    • An associate degree or technical diploma in a construction-related field.

Pay

$75.00/hour
