CPC Research Dissemination Director

About the Role

The Carolina Population Center (CPC) Research Dissemination Director will lead the translation and dissemination of CPC faculty research to diverse audiences. This role provides dedicated research dissemination support to Carolina Demography, an applied demography unit serving local and state agencies in North Carolina, as well as the Center’s Population Center (P30) and Aging Center (P2C) Infrastructure grants. The position is funded through external grants and contracts.

CPC research spans cutting-edge population science across disciplines, including mobility and well-being, reproduction and fertility, population health across the life course, aging in different contexts, and health and social and economic productivity. The Research Dissemination Director will collaborate with CPC Faculty Fellows and project staff to:

• Independently write and co-author original materials (technical reports, research briefs, syntheses, feature articles, web content, presentations, and videos).
• Develop dissemination strategies for multiple sponsored research projects across various channels.
• Substantially rework documents to improve organization, clarity, accuracy, and messaging for diverse U.S. and international audiences.
• Provide technical assistance to faculty, staff, and students on content development and audience-specific tailoring.
• Manage competing priorities, meet project deliverables, and participate in CPC management and research team meetings.

Requirements

• Master’s degree or Bachelor’s degree with 0–2 years of relevant experience (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
• Exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to work under pressure while managing multiple tasks.
• Proven high-level research writing and editing skills, with a focus on accuracy, tone, and audience adaptation.
• Ability to independently develop and edit research dissemination content for varied audiences.
• Proactive outreach to faculty to highlight research outcomes across 80+ CPC Faculty Fellows.
• Advanced proficiency in MS Word and experience with graphics/desktop publishing software.
• Publication and graphic design experience.
• Thorough understanding of social science research.
• Prior experience in research dissemination within an educational organization, particularly in population or social science.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in data visualization and social media management.
• Experience writing research progress reports and funding proposals.

Pay

$50,000 – $52,000 (dependent on qualifications, based on 0.7 FTE).
