About the role
The Head Track and Field Coach shall be responsible for establishing and maintaining effective school leadership to enable success for all. As an administrative team leader, the Coach will be highly visible, work toward success for all, be an active listener, and promote a caring, supportive, healthy and safe learning environment.
Responsibilities
- Establish and maintain standards of pupil behavior and provide proper supervision of the athletes at all times.
- Maintain eligibility forms, emergency data cards, insurance records, equipment inventory and other related records.
- Model sport-like behavior and maintain appropriate conduct towards players, officials, and spectators.
- Follow established procedures for the proper care, maintenance and requisitioning of equipment, supplies, and uniforms.
- Work with the Athletic Director to develop a policy for awards and submit a list of award winners at the end of the season.
- Connect with parents for concerns regarding student performance.
- Schedule facilities with the Athletic Director.
- Assign duties to the assistant coach as necessary.
- Coach and instruct players, individually or in groups, regarding the rules, regulations, equipment, and techniques of the sport.
- Observe team during participation to determine the needs for improvements.
- Monitor the academic performance of the team members to ensure that eligibility requirements are met.
- Communicate with the new media, booster clubs, service clubs and other organizations to promote the sport.
- Follow state, regional and district regulations governing the athletic program.
Requirements
- At least 6 months prior experience as a Coach at the High School/Middle School level, or any combination of experience working with youth or knowledge that provides the ability to perform the responsibilities of this position.
- Complete a school district approved Coaching Principles training that requires a minimum of five (5) hours of instruction or complete the NFHS Coaches Fundamentals Course or attend all sessions of the WIAA Coaches School.
- Annualy complete the WIAA general rules clinic and the WIAA approved rule clinic for the sport being coached prior to the end of the third week of the sports season.
- Possess a valid current First Aid Certification (or willing to obtain) or have completed a School District approved Athletic Training/Sports Medicine course equivalent to the Red Cross First Aid Card training or be enrolled in a First Aid Class.
- Possess a valid current CPR Certification or be enrolled in and approved CPR C, it must be renewed every three years.
- Have successfully completed Concussion recognition and management with Return to Play protocols and Sudden Cardiac Arrest Awareness trainings as required by Washington State Law that must be renewed every three (3) years.
- No history of child abuse or neglect.
- No history of drug or alcohol abuse.
- Pass a pre-employment background check according to Yakama Nation Tribal School requirements.
- Pass a pre-employment drug test.
- Must possess a valid Washington State Driver's License with the ability to obtain a Yakama Nation Driving permit. May be required to complete the Defensive Driving Course (to be updated every 2 years).
Qualifications
- Knowledge and some experience as a coach or assistant coach at the high school level or college level.
- Ability to demonstrate effective coaching techniques and skills.
- Ability to demonstrate thorough knowledge of the rules, regulations, strategies, and techniques of the sport.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school administrators, parents, and students.
Skills
- Knowledge of track and field sport.
- Knowledge of safety regulations, rules and policies that govern the track & field sport.
- Knowledge of equipment needed and used in the sport and how to maintain it.
- Knowledge of physical fitness and training requirements as well as proper and safe diet regime to be used by young athletes.
