Court Services Officer I - 12th Judicial District

Location: 12th Judicial District, Concordia, Kansas

About the role

The work involves communication and interaction with adult offenders under the court’s jurisdiction and with other concerned parties in the investigation and preparation of reports for the court; assisting offenders in understanding and meeting requirements that have been placed upon them; and assisting them in identifying needs and appropriate resources.

A Court Services Officer (CSO) prepares reports related to the transfer of supervision, case reports, violation reports, risk assessments (LSIR, LSCMI, WRNA, SASSI), and works closely with resource agencies in the community. Work is performed independently or in teams under the general direction of a senior Court Services Officer and is reviewed through staffing, reports, and caseload audits.

Responsibilities

• Communicate and interact with adult offenders under court jurisdiction and other concerned parties
• Investigate and prepare reports for the court
• Assist offenders in understanding and meeting court requirements
• Help offenders identify needs and appropriate resources
• Prepare reports related to transfer of supervision, case reports, violation reports, and risk assessments (LSIR, LSCMI, WRNA, SASSI)
• Collaborate closely with community resource agencies

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in a social services field (such as psychology, sociology, social work, criminal justice, corrections) from an accredited university
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
• Pass a named-based criminal history check
• Pass a fingerprint-based criminal history check within the first thirty days of employment if hired

Qualifications

• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Attention to detail
• Interpersonal skills to interact respectfully with clients and stakeholders
• Knowledge of best practices in probation/pretrial supervision (preferred)
• Familiarity working with justice-involved clients experiencing trauma, mental health, and/or substance use (preferred)

Preferred Experience

• Minimum of one year experience in one or more of the following within the past five years:
  • Conducting interviews
  • Writing formal reports
  • Working with justice-involved individuals
  • Working with clients with substance abuse and/or mental health issues

Pay

$29.07–$29.82 per hour. After 6 months of satisfactory performance: $32.09 per hour.
