Court Services Officer 1 - 16th Judicial District

Location: 16th Judicial District, Dodge City, Kansas

Pay: $29.07–$29.82/hour; increases to $32.09/hour after 1 year of satisfactory performance.

About the role

The work involves communication and interaction with adult offenders under the court’s jurisdiction and with other concerned parties in the investigation and preparation of reports for the court; assisting offenders in understanding and meeting court-ordered requirements; and helping them identify needs and appropriate community resources.

Responsibilities

• Prepare reports related to the transfer of supervision, case reports, violation reports, and risk assessments (LSIR, LSCMI, WRNA, SASSI).
• Work closely with community resource agencies.
• Perform duties independently or in teams under the general direction of a senior Court Services Officer; work is reviewed through staffing, reports, and caseload audits.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in a social-services field (psychology, sociology, social work, criminal justice, corrections) from an accredited university.
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
• Must pass a name-based criminal-history check; if hired, must also pass a fingerprint-based criminal-history check within the first thirty days of employment.

Skills

• Strong verbal and written communication skills with meticulous attention to detail.
• Interpersonal skills to interact respectfully with clients and stakeholders.
• Knowledge of best practices in probation/pretrial supervision is preferred.
• Familiarity working with justice-involved clients experiencing trauma, mental health, and/or substance-use issues is preferred.

Preferred qualifications

• Minimum of one year of experience within the past five years in any of the following:
  • Conducting interviews
  • Writing formal reports
  • Working with justice-involved individuals
  • Working with clients with substance-abuse and/or mental-health issues
