Pay

Starting rate: $28.98/hour. Experienced candidates (1+ years of service as a law enforcement or corrections officer) start at $30.14/hour and receive credit for each full year of prior experience.

Schedule

Monday–Friday, weekends, and overtime as determined by court schedule.

About the role

Experienced officers begin at the probationary officer pay rate but advance to the experienced rate after successfully completing the field training program. This position performs security functions for the Elkhart County Courts in Goshen. This is an entry-level role with opportunities to advance through a career development program within the Sheriff's Office.

Responsibilities

• Security screening
• Security patrols
• Control center monitoring
• Transports
• Preparing and filing reports
• Supervision of inmates at trials and other related functions
• Follow universal precaution standards for bloodborne diseases

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Valid driver’s license
• Must be at least 18 years of age and a U.S. citizen
• Pre-employment background check (criminal and credit), polygraph, and drug screen
• Travel within the county (must complete driving page on application)
