Qualifications

• This position is eligible for a Competitive Area Differential (CAD) as approved by the Florida State Court System up to $3,932.04 annually.
• Two-year Certification requirements are not paid by the AOC and are at the employee’s own expense.

Summary

Under supervision, Court Interpreters perform a wide variety of language interpretation activities on an assigned and as-needed basis for the 20th Judicial Circuit Courts, and for persons doing business with the courts circuit-wide. Incumbents perform duties as an interpreter for courtroom and other legal proceedings, which may include, but are not limited to, arraignments, preliminary hearing, pre-trial conference, and court trials.

Primary Responsibilities

• Interpreting the spoken and written word from and into English and Spanish languages;
• Translation and Documentation;
• Research and Development;
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Education and/or Experience

• Bachelor's degree in English; the source language, or a closely related field or, any equivalent combination of education, experience, and/or training in the fields of interpretation, translation, linguistics, or education.
• Two years of court/legal related experience. Additional relevant education may substitute for the recommended experience on a year-for-year basis.
• Must possess a valid Florida Driver’s License
• Must be registered with the State of Florida Court Interpreter Certification Board (In order to be able to register, applicants must have already attended the State of Florida Court Interpreter Orientation, passed a written test and completed 20 court observation hours).
• Certified Court Interpreter by the Court Interpreter Certification and Regulation Program (CICRP) of the Office of the State Courts Administrator (OSCA), Florida State Courts System (required to obtain within one year of hire)
• Biennial Renewal and Continuing Interpreter Education (CIE) Compliance Requirement

SALARY

$71,637.32 annually (based on 12 monthly periods) plus benefits & membership in the Florida Retirement System. Persons who do not have a Court Interpreter certification from the Court Interpreter Certification and Regulation Program (CICRP) of the Office of the State Courts Administrator, will be hired at a salary 10% below the minimum starting salary; however, they must be certified within 12 months of hire.

Experience Interpreting and Translating

• No experience
• Less than 3 years
• 3 years to less than 6 years
• 6 years to less than 9 years
• 9 years or more

Current Certification

• Have already attended the Mandatory Orientation
• Passed the written test
• Applied for Registration and your registration was already approved

Travel Requirements

Periodic travel to courts throughout the Twentieth Circuit to provide interpreter services, attend meetings and trainings as assigned is required. Are you willing and able to travel throughout the five county (Lee, Collier, Charlotte, Hendry and Glades) circuit as needed which may extend beyond normal work hours?

Driver's License

Do you have a valid driver's license to drive an automobile with an acceptable driving record? NOTE: This position requires a valid Florida Driver's License within 30 days of employment.
