Court Interpreter I
About the role
The State of Connecticut, Judicial Branch, Superior Court Operations Division is seeking individuals to serve as Court Interpreter I. This role involves performing the three modes of interpreting (simultaneous, consecutive, and sight translation) from English into Spanish or Portuguese and vice versa in various court proceedings, hearings, attorney/client conferences, pre-arraignment communications, and related matters. Additionally, interpreters may assist defendants in completing court-related forms, draft translations of forms and documents, and make court announcements in the target language.
Responsibilities
- Perform simultaneous, consecutive, and sight interpreting in court proceedings and related matters
- Make court announcements in Spanish or Portuguese as directed by the judge
- Maintain records of services provided and prepare activity reports
- Collect and enter data into automated recordkeeping systems
- Participate in study and training activities to develop and maintain interpreting and translating skills
- Assist defendants in completing court-related forms as directed by the court
- Draft translations of forms and documents in the target language
- Perform related duties as required
Requirements
General Experience: Demonstrated ability to perform simultaneous, consecutive, and sight interpreting and written language proficiency in the target language.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT: Incumbents will be required to travel in the course of their daily work.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent and a minimum of two years of experience in court interpreting or a related field.
Skills
Proficiency in Spanish or Portuguese, excellent communication skills, ability to work independently and as part of a team, attention to detail, and strong organizational skills.

Pay
Salary range: $63,204 - $82,436 annually plus State of Connecticut benefits.
