About the Exam

This is a competitive civil-service examination for the position of County Police Officer (Deputy Sheriff). Candidates who pass the written and physical-agility tests will be placed on an eligible list for appointment as vacancies occur.

Minimum Qualifications

• U.S. citizen or permanent resident alien who has applied for citizenship
• At least 20 years old at time of application and 21 years old at time of appointment
• High-school diploma or GED equivalent
• Valid driver’s license
• No felony convictions
• Good moral character as determined by a background investigation

Special Requirements

• Must pass a written examination (general aptitude, reading comprehension, and basic math)
• Must pass a physical-agility test (obstacle course, push-ups, sit-ups, and 1.5-mile run)
• Must pass a medical examination, psychological evaluation, and drug screening
• Must complete a 24-week basic police academy training program upon appointment

• Physical-agility test: November 9, 2026 (by invitation only)
