About the Exam
This is a competitive civil-service examination for the position of County Police Officer (Deputy Sheriff). Candidates who pass the written and physical-agility tests will be placed on an eligible list for appointment as vacancies occur.
Minimum Qualifications
- U.S. citizen or permanent resident alien who has applied for citizenship
- At least 20 years old at time of application and 21 years old at time of appointment
- High-school diploma or GED equivalent
- Valid driver’s license
- No felony convictions
- Good moral character as determined by a background investigation
Special Requirements
- Must pass a written examination (general aptitude, reading comprehension, and basic math)
- Must pass a physical-agility test (obstacle course, push-ups, sit-ups, and 1.5-mile run)
- Must pass a medical examination, psychological evaluation, and drug screening
- Must complete a 24-week basic police academy training program upon appointment

- Written exam: October 12, 2026 (registration deadline: September 28, 2026)
- Physical-agility test: November 9, 2026 (by invitation only)
