County Health Officer

About the role

The County of Mendocino seeks an innovative and community-oriented County Health Officer (CHO) to serve as the county’s chief public health strategist.

Responsibilities

• Developing and implementing health policy
• Oversight of public health preparedness efforts
• Fostering a cohesive healthcare system for a diverse population
• Medical oversight of communicable disease control, environmental health, and maternal and child health programs
• Ensuring enforcement of California statutes, regulations, and local ordinances
• Overseeing public health programs as prescribed by the California Department of Public Health
• Advising the Board of Supervisors and Health Services Director on community health issues
• Assessing and reporting on the County’s health status
• Developing health policy for the County and the community
• Advising the Board of Supervisors and working closely with the Director of Nursing, Disaster Services Nurse, and Deputy Health Officers specializing in communicable disease and children’s services
• Supervising health education initiatives
• Collaborating with healthcare providers
• Ensuring the delivery of quality health services, including for juvenile hall
• Working closely with local agencies, other County departments, and participating on state and national health boards and committees

Requirements

Qualifications

• Doctorate in Public Health or related field
• Experience in public health policy development and implementation
• Strong leadership skills
• Excellent communication and collaboration abilities
• Knowledge of California public health laws and regulations
• Ability to work effectively with diverse communities and stakeholders
