About the role

This classification level works under general supervision and is responsible for spending a majority of time in the courtroom, providing courtroom-related work such as capturing and recording verbatim proceedings of court and maintaining case information during and after proceedings. Responsibilities may include preparing documents for each court session (e.g., label exhibits, prepare journal entries), recording proceedings, and scheduling further court hearings.

Responsibilities

  • Monitors ongoing case files, including identifying appropriate forms to be completed or received, monitoring case status, issuing and processing warrants and civil suspensions, tracking and maintaining files, and performing other related activities.
  • Processes and prepares casework for court sessions; notates court actions on applicable documents and forms; and performs other related activities.
  • Maintains court calendar; schedules interpreters, transportation, prosecutors, defense counsel, and/or events.
  • Performs routine administrative support duties, including scheduling court hearing meetings, labeling exhibits, preparing journal entries, and preparing other standard documents for court sessions.
  • Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or GED and 2 years of courtroom clerk experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job. All educational credits must be granted from an accredited institution approved by the U.S. Department of Education.

Physical Requirements

Positions in this class involve primarily sedentary work, although some slight physical effort may be required, not to exceed 20 lbs.

Pay

Starting Salary: $37,027.38 annually (Hiring Rate).

  • Immediate Growth: Earn a 2.5% pay increase after successfully completing your probation period (if starting at Hiring Rate).
  • Starting Rate Flexibility: Higher starting pay may be considered based on education and experience, subject to final management approval. Candidates approved to start above the Hiring Rate (at or above the Minimum Permanent rate) are not eligible for the 2.5% post-probation increase.
  • Future Increases: Annual cost-of-living adjustments (applied on July 1) are subject to State Legislature approval.
