About the role

The Assistant County Attorney will provide legal services across a wide variety of local government law areas, including litigation in general district courts, circuit courts, and federal courts with supervision. Additional responsibilities include FOIA and subpoena work, as well as other legal matters as assigned.

This role operates with some supervision but requires comprehensive, in-depth knowledge of Virginia law as it relates to general and local government, as well as federal laws and regulations and their relationship to the authority and functions of county government.

Responsibilities

  • Provide legal services in various areas of local government law
  • Handle litigation in general district courts, circuit courts, and federal courts with supervision
  • Manage FOIA and subpoena work
  • Address other legal matters as assigned

Requirements

  • Comprehensive, in-depth knowledge of Virginia law as it relates to general and local government
  • Understanding of federal laws and regulations and their relationship to county government authority and functions
