- Monday–Friday, 1:00 PM–9:30 PM
- Saturday and Sunday off

About the role
Employee may be assigned to primary duty of cashier or food-service counterworker in a busy, popular café.
Responsibilities
- Food Service (40 %)
- Replenish beverages, portioned items, hot food, salad and sandwich bars, bulk ingredients, and baked goods
- Serve food items promptly and courteously, following sanitary guidelines and portion control
- Prepare a limited number of food items such as vegetables, fruit salads, pre-made sandwiches, and omelets
- Cashier (30 %)
- Operate cash register to itemize and total customer purchases
- Review price sheets for changes and sale items
- Scan items, record prices, and total purchases
- Collect cash, check, or student charge-system payment; make change for cash transactions
- Maintain awareness of potential shoplifting and practice prevention techniques
- Count money in cash drawer; open and close register at start and end of shift
- Identify items not accepted by the scanner
- Maintenance (20 %)
- Wash dishes by hand and using a commercial dishwasher
- Sweep and mop café serving area; empty trash as needed
- Clean table-tops in the café

- Collaborate on other related initiatives within the division and College
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalency
- Six months of relevant experience in food service operations
- Food service experience in an institutional establishment preferred
- Good interpersonal and communication skills; ability to apply customer-relations procedures and policies
- Good attention to detail and neat appearance
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
- Familiarity with sanitary procedures relating to food preparation
- Basic understanding of cleanliness procedures and general sanitation regulations
- Ability to stand for long periods and lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds
- May work varied shifts and overtime
