About the role
The Counter Sales Representative assists customers and contractors with sales, order processing, and payment in a retail environment.
Pay
$22.00 - $28.00/hour
Responsibilities
- Greet and interact positively with customers; respond to questions about merchandise, pricing, promotions, product selection, order placement, quotations, complaints, and delivery/installation scheduling; provide follow-up as needed.
- Facilitate product selection for showroom customers using appropriate forms and processes to ensure accurate records.
- Process customer sales through the cash register, receiving payment by cash, check, credit card, voucher, or automatic debit; maintain proper cash levels and record transaction totals.
- Create accurate invoices, work orders, and sales tickets; code and enter customer orders, pricing, and other data into the computer system; issue refunds or credits with manager approval.
- Purchase special-order products and obtain information on pricing, specifications, uses, and availability.
- Maintain showroom appearance, organization, and physical integrity (doors, floors, windows, restrooms, workstations); clean and dust products/displays; maintain stock levels; assist with physical inventory.
- Bag, box, wrap, and prepare merchandise and customer packages.
- Assist with yard and warehouse operations (receiving, returns, stocking, organization) and safely operate forklifts, company vehicles, and material handling equipment after required training.
- Attend training and meetings to expand product knowledge; perform location-specific services (e.g., cutting keys, mixing paint, cutting glass).
- Perform other duties as assigned; comply with all policies and standards; adhere to workplace safety; complete assigned trainings.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- 1-3 years of building material knowledge and sales experience preferred.
- Valid driver’s license and acceptable motor vehicle record may be required based on location and job responsibilities.
Skills

- Professional demeanor; detail-oriented and highly observant.
- Ability to multi-task and perform basic mathematical calculations.
- Knowledge of building materials, applications, equipment, or construction industry.
- Good interpersonal and customer relations skills; vendor knowledge.
- Ability to read blueprints and use computers, printers, phones, copiers, fax machines, and engineering tools.
- Familiarity with inventory control, Microsoft Office, and Trend system.
- Ability to work Saturday and evening schedules as required.
- Must be able to drive and walk throughout yards, plants, and offices.
