About the role

This hybrid Counter Sales and Warehouse position primarily supports walk-in customers at the sales counter and inside/outside sales, while also performing general warehouse duties approximately 35% of the time. The role involves working closely with Branch Managers to drive product sales, marketing promotions, and strategic branch goals. Strong professional communication skills are required for interactions with customers, employees, vendors, and other branch contacts.

Responsibilities

  • Assist customers in determining and selecting appropriate parts, providing price quotes and parts information.
  • Inform customers of specials, companion part requirements, and the full product line.
  • Represent the branch professionally, maintaining friendly and courteous interactions with customers and coworkers.
  • Pull and fill parts orders from stock; prepare orders for daily shipment, delivery, or pickup.
  • Inspect cores received from customers, tag for return to vendor, and issue customer credit upon receipt of vendor credit.
  • Notify manager of out-of-stock parts or materials requiring immediate attention.
  • Locate out-of-stock parts from external sources and submit emergency orders as necessary.
  • Notify customers of special order parts receipt and delivery dates.
  • Verify will-call and back orders weekly; return unfulfilled orders to vendors and follow up on back orders.
  • Provide customers with copies of invoices and process payments for retail purchases.
  • Obtain credit authorizations or required signatures for charge sales.
  • Issue credits for returned parts after verifying purchase and pricing against the original invoice.
  • Participate in annual physical inventory and assist with maintaining the lost sales tracking program.
  • Maintain cleanliness of the front counter, parts areas, and perform weekly branch cleaning.
  • Stay informed of new products and product updates.
  • Pull and fill stock orders for outgoing deliveries.
  • Separate, label, and verify counts of incoming freight deliveries.
  • Package finished product for shipping (shrink wrapping, boxing, and labeling).
  • Operate Varsity Ship desk.
  • Perform other duties as assigned; some overtime may be required.

Requirements

  • 1–3 years of work-related experience (auto parts sales preferred).
  • Background in vehicle parts knowledge, automotive part fitment, OEM, and competitive part evaluation (preferred).
  • Prior experience with automotive part interchanges (preferred).
  • Work experience in a distribution and technical environment (preferred).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Programs and excellent computer skills.
  • AS 400 / JD Edwards or similar ERP experience (a plus).
  • Experience working in a warehouse setting and counter sales.
  • Experience with Varsity Ship (a plus, but not required).
  • Excellent verbal communication skills.
  • Bilingual skills in Spanish (a plus).
  • Ability to work on and lead cross-functional teams.
