About the Role

We are seeking caring, compassionate, mission-driven Counselors to work specifically with children and their families who have come to the attention of the child protective investigation division of the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office and have been determined to be safe but at high risk of future child abuse and neglect.

Together We Rise (TWR) will work with all members of the family using a team-based approach in a supportive, empowering, and respectful manner to assist the family with creating safe and stable parenting practices to facilitate long-term behavior change that ensures children are safe in their home.

This is a field-based position, and all services must be provided face-to-face. There is no opportunity for remote or virtual service provision.

Directions for Living is an essential services provider. All employees must be willing and able to provide vital support and essential services to the people we serve in the event of an emergency, pandemic, or other disaster situation.

For the safety of all clients and team members, weapons or firearms are not permitted in any of our facilities. If you carry a weapon, it must remain secured in your vehicle (ref: Fla. Stat. 790.251).

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with a team to provide supportive, empowering, and respectful relationships with families to facilitate change and emphasize the need for action by providing both concrete services and family interventions.
  • Provide exclusively in-home therapeutic services aimed at strengthening the protective capacities of primary and secondary caregivers in the home.
  • Focus on the identification and resolution of interpersonal conflicts such as domestic violence and trauma related to Adverse Childhood Experiences.
  • Actively participate in the Integrated Decision Team (IDT) process.
  • Conduct face-to-face visits with families according to the required frequency to mitigate the risk of future abuse or neglect of the child(ren).
  • Utilize a strength-based, emotional support approach to help clients identify their strengths and build upon them.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a Master's Degree in Human Services or a related field from an accredited college or university.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience working with at-risk populations, including families experiencing substance misuse, domestic violence, mental health challenges, and emotionally disturbed children.
  • Certified Addictions Professional (CAP) preferred.
