Counselor, Residential: Sign-On Bonus up to $4,000!

Position Summary

The Residential Counselor is responsible for providing comprehensive behavioral health services to individuals residing in the facility in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team. Weekends and evenings as needed!

Essential Functions

  • Carry out assessments: Evaluate patients to determine the nature and extent of their substance abuse issues, as well as co-occurring mental health conditions or other factors that may impact their treatment and lives.

  • Develop treatment plans: Collaborate with the patients to develop individualized treatment plans that address their specific needs and goals in recovery.

  • Offer individual counseling: Offer one-on-one counseling sessions to patients to help them explore underlying issues, develop coping strategies, and work towards recovery.

  • Facilitate group therapy sessions: Facilitate group therapy sessions to provide patients with peer support, address common issues, and practice interpersonal skills in a supportive environment.

  • Audit progress: Regularly assess patients' progress in treatment, adjust treatment plans as needed, and provide feedback and support to help patients stay on track with their recovery goals.

  • Provide education: Provide education on substance abuse, addictions, relapse prevention strategies, coping skills, and healthy lifestyle choices to empower patients in their recovery journey.

  • Collaborate with other professionals: Work closely with other members of the treatment team, such as medical professionals, social workers, case managers, and peer support professionals, to ensure comprehensive care for patients.

  • Advocate for patients: Advocate for patients' needs and rights within the residential program and in external settings, such as court proceedings, social service agencies, or healthcare settings.

  • Document patient progress: Maintain accurate and confidential records, including treatment plans, progress notes, and discharge summaries, in compliance with legal and ethical standards.

Qualifications/Skills Required

  • Counselor I: Current licensure as Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist (LMFT) or Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LADC), with a minimum of two (2) years relevant experience. Must be knowledgeable about the biological and psychosocial dimensions of substance use and mental health disorders and their treatment and be able to identify the signs and symptoms of acute psychiatric conditions, including psychiatric decompensation. Adult CPR/AED or BLS certification must be obtained and maintained within the initial 6 months of employment. Must possess a valid driver’s license and safe/clear driving record.

  • Counselor II: Associate license (LMSW, LPC-A, LMFT-A) required. Independent professional licensure expected within 2 years. Must be knowledgeable about the biological and psychosocial dimensions of substance use and mental health disorders and their treatment and be able to identify the signs and symptoms of acute psychiatric conditions, including psychiatric decompensation. Adult CPR/AED or BLS certification must be obtained and maintained within the initial 6 months of employment. Must possess a valid driver’s license and safe/clear driving record. Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary Range: Counselor I - $67,000 - $77,000 with a $4,000 sign on bonus! Counselor II - $55,000 - $66,000 with a $2,000 sign on bonus!

  • $2000 provided annually for tuition, license reimbursement, certifications or other educational activities, including 3 paid training days for educational activities and conferences; an additional $1000 available for counselors seeking outside supervision hours when such can not be provided in the organization internally.

  • Annual bonus eligible based on agency performance.

  • Root Center has approved sites for the following NHSC Loan Repayment Programs: The Loan Repayment Program, Students to Service Loan Repayment Program, Rural Community Loan Repayment Program and Substance Use Disorder Workforce Loan Repayment Program.
