Position Summary

The AODA Counselor is a member of our Programs for Change team and facilitates treatment environments for patients to obtain the knowledge and tools necessary to complete all aspects of intensive outpatient, outpatient, and continuing care treatment plans and individual goals of treatment.

Work Schedule

Monday – Friday Days, afternoons, and some evenings

Required Qualifications

  • Education, Experience or Equivalent Combination: Minimum of Associate’s degree required in Substance Abuse Counselor (SAC) specific program.
  • Licensure/ Registration/ Certification: Wisconsin license as a Substance Abuse Counselor – In Training (SACIT).
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
    • Must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to patients of a variety of age groups.
    • Must demonstrate knowledge of principles of growth and development through the life span, possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient’s status, and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient’s needs in relation to age and to provide the care needed as described in the department’s policies and procedures.
    • Excellent organization and case management skills.
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office Computer software (Word, Excel) required.
    • Ability to professionally manage a wide range of personalities and clinical presentations.
    • Knowledge of and ability to perform the established professional functions of a SAC.
    • Knowledge and ability to plan and accomplish curriculum for treatment programs.
    • Ability to communicate and consult with other health professionals, referents, patients, families and staff.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Education, Experience or Equivalent Combination: Bachelor’s degree preferred. Two years’ experience as a Treatment Counselor preferred.
  • Licensure/ Registration/ Certification: Substance Abuse Counselor (SAC), or Clinical Substance Abuse Counselor (CSAC). License as a SAC or CSAC preferred.
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Experience with EPIC EHR
