Counselor I

About the role

This position conducts individual and group counseling sessions for program youth and prepares students to transition to placement immediately following completion of the program. Also provides classroom instruction of job skills and life coping skills curriculum.

Responsibilities

• Under supervision of the Lead counselor, conduct individual, group, and crisis counseling to positively affect retention of cadets and to identify their life/career goals.
• Provide daily feedback on cadets’ progress to supervisor.
• Provide individual counseling and group guidance in the areas of life coping skills, drug and alcohol education, character education, as well as individual/personal issues.
• Assist with retention of cadets as needed.
• Coordinate and schedule guest speakers and field trips appropriate to counseling group subject matter.
• Attend educational, institutional, and department meetings and trainings as required.

Requirements

• BA/BS in counseling, education, or related field required; Master’s and Licensure (LPC/LBP) preferred.
• Ability to handle confidential information and exercise sound judgment in interpreting and applying rules or policy.
• Internet and computer skills for program database entry.
• Must be able to lift a minimum of 25 pounds.
• Contingent on a favorable background check.
• Contingent on passing a pre-employment drug & alcohol screening.
• Must maintain a valid driver’s license.
• T1/CNACI security clearance (eligibility for national security positions requires U.S. citizenship).
• Serves a 12-month trial period.
• Contingent on receiving continuous federal funding.

Pay

$3,750.00 per month / $45,000 per year.
