Counselor - Elementary

This is a part-time, regular position based at Buffalo Ridge Elementary with approximately 20 scheduled hours per week (0.50 FTE) and 190 work days per year.

About the Role

Designs and implements a school guidance curriculum; provides individual student planning, responsive services, and systems support. Works as a team member with school staff, parents, and the community to create a caring, supportive climate and atmosphere whereby students can achieve academic success. Understanding of unique and diverse challenges, both personally and developmentally, that impact academic achievement of elementary school students is essential. Develops and promotes good community relations among various community and school clientele.

Responsibilities

• Encourage two-way communication to enhance and promote the school counseling program.
• Document health-related services in the designated Medicaid documentation system for the DCSD School Medicaid Reimbursement Program as assigned.
• Refer and connect students to appropriate resources to enhance learning and development.
• Work collaboratively within the school environment and with appropriate stakeholders to advance the goals of the Counseling Program.
• Provide information to students and parents regarding academic progress, counseling programs, community resources, etc.
• Use assessment data to measure student learning and academic growth and analyze results in planning counseling decisions.
• Align the counseling program to school goals (School Improvement Plan).
• Participate in professional development activities to improve knowledge and skills.
• Deliver counseling services through classroom guidance lessons, small groups, and individual counseling.
• Demonstrate age-appropriate counseling practices that meet academic and personal/social needs.
• Assist in coordinating district and state testing programs.
• Use available technology resources to enhance the school counseling practice and program.
• Maintain community partnerships to support students and their families.
• Support students in the successful transition from each grade level into the next phase.
• Manage a counseling program in order to encourage and support academic achievement and personal/social development.
• Customize counseling services to meet individual student and school needs.
• Counsel individuals to help them understand and overcome personal, social, or behavioral problems affecting their education.
• Perform other related duties as assigned or requested.

Requirements

• Master’s Degree in Counseling
• Special Service Provider License - School Counseling (Colorado Department of Education)

Pay

Full salary range: $56,366.00 USD - $119,121.00 USD annual. This is a Hard to Hire Licensed position; salaries are set based on one of three salary schedules. DCSD will award up to 7 years of previous licensed teaching experience at the time of hire. Part-time salaries are prorated according to the assigned FTE (0.50).
