About the role

The Counselor, Disabled Students Programs & Services (DSP&S) will provide services to a diverse student population, covering academic, career, transfer, and personal counseling. Responsibilities include coordinating with high school special education case managers, facilitating accommodations, developing academic accommodation plans, and monitoring student progress.

Responsibilities

  • Applying an equity-minded framework and ensuring services meet diverse student needs
  • Assisting with coordination and liaison services with high school special education case managers and related staff/faculty
  • Working in various settings, including evenings and weekends
  • Serving as an advocate for students with disabilities to facilitate equitable access
  • Evaluating and arranging accommodations such as testing accommodations, note-taking, and adaptive equipment
  • Collaborating with others to plan and provide support for students navigating college processes
  • Maintaining confidential records and participating in professional development activities
  • Participating in department, college, and district committees as needed
  • Creating and teaching Educational Strategy Courses (ESC)
  • Fulfilling all duties and responsibilities of faculty as required by Administrative Regulation 7122

Requirements

The successful candidate must have a Master’s in rehabilitation counseling, counseling, guidance counseling, student personnel, clinical or counseling psychology, education counseling, social work, career development, marriage and family therapy, marriage, family and child counseling, or a bachelor’s degree in marriage and family therapy or marriage, family and child counseling with a relevant license. They must also have fifteen or more semester units in upper division or graduate level courses specifically related to people with disabilities, or two years of full-time experience in counseling for students with disabilities, or a valid California Community College Credential.

Qualifications

  • Master’s in rehabilitation counseling or related field
  • Completion of six semester units or equivalent of a graduate-level counseling practicum or field work courses in a DSPS program or similar field
  • Experience in counseling for students with disabilities or in a similar field
  • Experience working with diverse student populations, including African American, Asian/Pacific Islander, Latinx, Native American, and other racially minoritized students
  • Knowledge of community college mission and goals

  • Knowledge of community college and its mission and goals

Benefits

Salary and benefits are determined by the Part-Time Faculty Salary Schedule. Sick leave accrual is based on assignment hours. For more information, refer to the SCCCD & SCFT Part-Time Faculty Agreement.

Pay

Newly hired part-time faculty will be placed on step one of the Part-Time Faculty Salary Schedule.

Schedule

Flexible scheduling is available, including extended day, evening, and weekend assignments.
