Counselor

About the role

The Counselor will maintain charts on their caseload, provide necessary services, and refer clients as needed in NJSAMS. They will also participate in multidisciplinary teams and provide active case consultations.

Responsibilities

• Assessing the counseling needs of clients using ASI or other standardized clinical interview tools.
• Determining the appropriate level of care according to ASAM Criteria.
• Obtaining previous records relevant to the current treatment episode.
• Collaborating with clients to develop a written treatment plan.
• Providing substance use counseling services as per the treatment plan.
• Reviewing clients according to ASAM Criteria to determine the need for continued services, transfer, or discharge/transfer.
• Developing a client discharge/transfer plan.
• Contacting and coordinating with referral sources.
• Participating in training and education workshops.
• Communicating with the unit supervisor and documenting unusual incidents.
• Gathering materials for educational/didactic lectures.
• Maintaining confidentiality of departmental and client records.
• Conducting individual/group counseling sessions as required by grant requirements.
• Assisting with monitoring U/A specimens.

Requirements

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• CADC, LSW, or LAC license/certification.
• American Heart Association BLS (BLSHCP) and HSFA certification within 90 days of hire or transfer.
• Knowledgeable in addiction terminology.
• Ability to multitask and excellent time management skills.

Qualifications

• Education: High School diploma or equivalent.
• Licenses/Certifications: CADC, LSW, or LAC license/certification. Annual CPI required within 90 days of hire or transfer. American Heart Association BLS (BLSHCP) and HSFA required within 90 days of hire or transfer.
• Experience: Knowledgeable in addiction terminology. Ability to multitask. Excellent time management skills.
