Counselor 2026-2027

Barnesville School of Arts & Sciences is an accredited coeducational independent day school for students in grades EC-8. Located on a 30-acre campus with two school buildings, a full gymnasium, athletic field, and two playgrounds, the School is dedicated to providing a joyful and supportive learning environment for the development of excellence in each student. About the Role

The School Counselor will report to the Assistant Head and provide counseling support to students, as well as guidance and general support to faculty and parents. This full-time, 10-month, exempt (salaried) position requires on-site presence during the normal school day and availability to attend afternoon/evening meetings as necessary.

Responsibilities

• Provide student support and intervention, including referrals and acting as a liaison between outside mental health providers and the School.
• Develop and implement student programs and curriculum for social and emotional learning.
• Work with the Assistant Head to prioritize areas of professional development for faculty and staff.
• Identify and communicate available resources for parent education opportunities.
• Be fully engaged in the life and mission of the school, participating in enrichment classes, school committees, after-school activities, and athletic teams as required.
• Attend afternoon/evening meetings as necessary.

Requirements

• Master’s degree in counseling or related field.
• L.C.S.W. or equivalent certification required.
• Minimum of 3 years of student counseling experience.
• Clinical experience with adolescent mental health issues such as personal identity, conflict resolution, and crisis intervention.
• Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
• High level of cultural competency and commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion work.

Physical Requirements

• Daily desk work, including significant amounts of telephone and computer time.
• Ability to move around a mid-size campus with uneven pavement and manage stairs.
• Frequent walking inside and outside to respond to campus issues and monitor departmental progress.

Pay

Annual salary range: $60,000 - $70,000.
