Counsellor, NFP PEOPLE

We are looking for a passionate and professional counsellor with excellent interpersonal and organisational skills to join the Emotional Support Service based in Liverpool. This is an exciting opportunity to work with stroke survivors and their families to support them following stroke.

This is a part-time, home-based role with frequent travel required across Liverpool for team meetings and work-related engagements. Candidates must live in the Liverpool area and be able to meet the travel requirements of the role. You must be a resident of the UK with the right to work in the UK.

About the role

Reporting to the Emotional Support Service Manager, you will deliver a professional counselling service to stroke survivors, carers, and relatives. Counselling sessions are designed to help clients develop emotional resilience, readjust to life after stroke, and prepare to reintegrate into community life.

Responsibilities

• Provide one-to-one counselling to stroke survivors, carers, and relatives, including those with communication or cognitive difficulties.
• Deliver counselling sessions in person, online, or by telephone throughout Liverpool.
• Assess the appropriateness of counselling for service users by conducting emotional needs assessment sessions and using appropriate screening/evaluation tools (e.g., PHQ and GAD).
• Manage risk and safeguarding issues in accordance with legal, ethical, and organisational requirements.

Requirements

• An advanced diploma in integrative, humanistic, or person-centred counselling/psychotherapy (e.g., BACP recognised course or equivalent, including 450 hours of skills and theory, 100 hours of supervised practice, and 20 hours of personal therapy).
• A minimum of 1 year of post-qualification supervised clinical practice.
• BACP registration (or equivalent) and actively working towards accreditation.
• Experience delivering short-term counselling.
• Experience working with people with cognitive impairment.
• A flexible approach to hours and working arrangements, with the ability to work independently.

Pay

Circa £19,000 per annum (full-time equivalent circa £31,700).

Schedule

Part-time, 21 hours per week. This is a fixed-term contract until 31 March 2027.
