Counseling Services: Clinical Counselor
Job Duties
- Provides individual, group, couples therapy, as well as crisis drop-in services to university students within a brief treatment model.
- Provides consultation services to faculty and staff.
- Provides outreach to campus organizations and classes to inform students about personal development and mental health concerns.
- Serves as supervisor and trainer for graduate student practicum/interns.
- Assumes other duties as requested by the director, as appropriate.
Key Job Responsibilities
- Evaluates mental and physical health and behavior and treatment readiness; and develops, coordinates, and disseminates treatment plans for clients and their families in collaboration with medical professionals.
- Trains and guides students or interns as needed.
- Teaches clients and support systems about disorders and helps develop strategies to cope with mental and physical health and behavior problems.
- Facilitates community education programs and/or support groups to help individuals and community members understand the needs and abilities of people with disabilities.
- Completes reports related to clinical treatment, patient planning, and/or medical care according to established policies and procedures.
- Recommends referrals, schedules logistics, and secures resources for clients to receive medical care or various program assistance to help clients live and work more independently.
Required Qualifications
- A Master’s Degree in Counseling, Social Work, Marriage and Family therapy, or closely related field from a regionally accredited institution.
- Considerable clinical experience facilitating general process groups and psycho-educational workshops is helpful in this position.
- Supervised internship or work experience in university counseling center, mental health agency, or related professional setting is preferred.
- Experience conducting brief therapy, outreach, and clinical supervision are assets.
- Current professional licensure (LPC, LCSW, LMFT) is preferred.
- Applicants without full licensure will still be considered. Required to be licensed within the state of Wisconsin within 2 years of starting the position.
