About the role

As Counsel II - Cyber & Privacy, you will play a key role in advising on complex legal matters at the intersection of technology, data, and business strategy. This position offers the opportunity to partner closely with IT and other stakeholders to provide thoughtful, practical legal guidance on cybersecurity, privacy, and emerging technologies, including AI, while supporting the organization’s broader strategic objectives. You will contribute to evolving policies and procedures, identify and mitigate risk in a dynamic environment, and help integrate legal analysis into day-to-day decision-making. This role involves building strong partnerships and applying legal expertise in a way that directly supports innovation and forward progress.

Responsibilities

  • Develops strategy, advocates, and manages standard commercial litigation, transactions, or regulatory dockets before state or federal regulatory agencies involving multiple parties to achieve successful outcomes.
  • Provides legal counsel on a wide range of standard legal matters, including transactional, human resources, litigation, intellectual property, real estate, public company, or regulatory matters.
  • Specializes in standard projects involving internal teams, business units, and external resources with moderate guidance and direction.
  • Supports executive and top-level management and serves as a primary point of contact for internal clients related to legal issues.
  • Collaborates with business units and staff departments to facilitate compliance with federal and state regulations.
  • Remains abreast of proposed legislation and regulatory changes that might affect the organization.
  • Drafts contracts, pleadings, memoranda, and other legal documents for filing before regulatory agencies or courts, or for use by internal business teams.
  • Ensures filings are supported by compelling evidence and present persuasive arguments to achieve objectives.
  • Monitors legal and business developments that may affect a project and determines the appropriate course of action.
  • Assesses project risk and evaluates the scope and resources needed to complete a project, including determining the level of expertise required.
  • Manages stakeholder relationships and communications, respectfully questioning clients when business decisions create legal risks.
  • Provides direction, support, and resources to remove barriers to task accomplishment.
  • Supports knowledge sharing and a learning culture, demonstrating adaptability and creativity in addressing specific situations.
  • Develops new approaches for legal processes and generates ideas to enhance them.
  • Engages in other duties as needed to support Alliant Energy’s values and purpose.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school, college, or university is required.
  • Admission to practice law in Iowa or Wisconsin, or the appropriate jurisdiction is required.
  • 3 or more years of experience in a wide range of legal issues after receiving a law degree.

Pay

Pay Range: $135,000 - $177,000. This position is eligible to participate in the annual incentive program. The final salary offered will generally fall within this range and is dependent on various factors including but not limited to the responsibilities of the position, experience, skill set, internal pay equity, and other relevant qualifications of the applicant.
