Counsel at First Appearance Staff Supervisor/Business Analyst III
This position is part of Travis County’s Counsel at First Appearance (CAFA) program, providing attorneys (defense and prosecution) to arrested persons during the magistration process. The role involves coordinating court processes, providing technical assistance to judges and court participants, and managing Business Analyst II/CAFA Court Coordinators and Interpreters. Evening, weekend, and holiday work is required on a rotational basis.
Distinguishing Characteristics
This is the fourth in a series of four business analyst-related job classifications within the Information Technology job family. The role provides complex technical consulting and support for defining, developing, and improving functional or business processes. It may include computer hardware and software installation, network administration, and database management. A flexible work schedule may be required to meet departmental needs.
Responsibilities
- Performs advanced, complex legal, administrative, technical, and operational assistance and research for judges and court staff under limited supervision.
- Maintains order and decorum during CAFA Magistration hearings.
- Assists judges, attorneys, and the public in interacting with the court system.
- Coordinates courtroom activities and monitors daily use of electronic courtroom equipment and document management systems during hearings.
- Reviews dockets for language needs, coordinates with Spanish interpreters, and schedules Language Line for non-Spanish defendants.
- Coordinates the CAFA TEAMS meeting, invites participants, ensures docket review completion, and facilitates communication among Pretrial, Defense, and Prosecution teams.
- Creates and manages the CAFA Magistration hearing schedule and coordinates shift assignments with departments.
- Serves as Zoom Coordinator for Magistration, creates breakout rooms, and ensures courtroom equipment functionality.
- Manages and schedules CAFA Court Coordinators, directs their training, and oversees their work.
- Schedules meetings with associate judges and acts as a liaison with associated Travis County departments.
- Provides on-site desktop support, endpoint management, and assistance outside of core business hours, including weekends and holidays.
- Creates, resets, and deletes user profiles and assists with access or login issues.
- Installs, configures, deploys, and supports hardware (cameras, printers, desktops, peripherals) and software packages.
- Works with varied client technologies, testing and installing across multiple platforms.
- Assists in determining technology requirements.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Administration, or a related field and five (5) years of relevant work experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Valid Texas Driver’s License.
Preferred Qualifications
- Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE) Certification.
- Certified Novell Administrator (CNA) Certification.
- Certified Novell Engineer (CNE) Certification.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift/carry up to 35–40 pounds occasionally.

Travis County employees may be assigned to business continuity efforts outside of normal job functions.
Schedule
8:00 AM – 5:00 PM, Monday–Friday (with rotational evening, weekend, and holiday shifts as required).
