Job Duties

The Officer is responsible for advising the Insurance Commissioner and Division on all legal matters, coordinates legal proceedings; represents the Division in contested cases; manages service of process for companies; ensures compliance with the Insurance Code; as well as with other obligations on the agency such as public records; and participates in drafting bills, regulations, and guidance.

The Officer also provides legal support for special projects, conducts staff training, and ensures administrative actions conform to legislative policy under the Commissioner’s direction.

Strong leader with excellent research, writing, and communication skills. Skilled in managing priorities, working independently and in teams, and adapting to new technologies. Detail-oriented, proactive, and able to develop new skills to meet evolving needs.

Essential Qualifications

  • A Juris Doctor from an accredited law school, currently admitted to and in good standing with the Nevada bar, with proficiency in legal information technology systems, including legal research platforms, case management systems, and e-discovery tools.
  • A Nevada attorney with experience in administrative and civil law, a solid understanding of criminal law, and familiarity with insurance and risk-transfer concepts.
  • The ideal candidate has presided over legal proceedings, such as mediation, arbitration, or hearings, and understands the role of regulation.
  • Around the desk, the ideal candidate is both curious and patient, with a strong ability to navigate complex legal matters.
