Position Details

The University of Vermont is seeking a Costume Shop Supervisor to provide support services in costume production for the School of the Arts Theatre & Dance Program. This role includes supervision and management of all activities in the costume shop, overseeing costume-related materials purchasing, storage, upkeep of inventory, administration of costume rentals/loans, maintenance of costume shop equipment and supplies, and completing costume construction and associated duties for all Program productions. The supervisor also instructs costume stagecraft labs and trains work-study students on costume construction. Additionally, the position manages and oversees costume run crews for productions.

Minimum Qualifications (or equivalent combination of education and experience)

  • Bachelor’s degree in Theatre or a related field and two to four years’ related experience required.
  • Experience in costume shop management and costume construction required.
  • Demonstrated ability to use and train others in the safe and proper use of sewing machines, dye equipment and other related machines and materials.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills required.
  • Must be able to read and execute costume renderings.
  • Proficient in all aspects of draping/pattern making, fitting, dressmaking, tailoring, millinery, dye processes, and other costume related procedures.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Experience working with and/or supervising students.

Anticipated Pay Range

$57,000 - $62,000
