Job Summary
Help build the future of San Diego—one school, one schedule, and one budget at a time. We are seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Cost/Schedule Engineer to join our Facilities Planning and Construction team.
Responsibilities
- Develop, maintain, and analyze project schedules using Primavera P6 or Microsoft Project.
- Perform Critical Path Method (CPM) analysis to identify potential delays before they happen.
- Monitor project expenditures against budgets. Prepare monthly cash flow forecasts and "Estimate at Completion" (EAC) reports to ensure fiscal responsibility.
- Evaluate the cost and schedule impact of change orders. Work closely with Project Managers to negotiate fair pricing and time extensions with contractors.
- Generate clear, concise visual reports for executive leadership, detailing Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) like Schedule Variance (SV) and Cost Variance (CV).
- Apply Earned Value Management (EVM) principles to measure project performance and progress objectively.
Requirements
- Experience: 3–5 years of direct experience in project controls, cost engineering, or construction scheduling.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Architecture, or a related field.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in Primavera P6 (required). Advanced Excel skills (Pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, data visualization). Familiarity with Project Management software (e.g., e-Builder, Procore).
- Analytical Mindset: Ability to translate complex data sets into actionable insights for non-technical stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working on K-12 educational facilities or public works projects.
- Knowledge of California Division of the State Architect (DSA) requirements.
- Certification as a Project Management Professional (PMP) or Planning & Scheduling Professional (PSP).
