Cost Estimator
Purpose of the position
Under general supervision, prepares detailed estimates using the contract hierarchy (pre-priced, RS Means, or subcontractor bid) to include man-hour estimates and materials requirements for individual maintenance, repair, and/or construction jobs to be performed by the “in-house” work force or subcontractors. When required prepares estimates for facilities engineering work to be performed by the “in-house” work force or subcontractors. Estimates costs for projects based on an analysis of project technical requirements. Collects and analyzes all project costs, including raw materials, labor, equipment and tooling to ensure estimates are accurate. Identifies and quantify potential cost uncertainties to ensure costing models capture the full range of potential costs. Updates costs as necessary based on new information and project scope changes.
Principal Responsibilities Of The Position
- Assists with a variety of special projects as assigned.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Analyzes and supports pricing requirements in response to requests for proposals (RFPs) to ensure that adequate support is provided for business solutions/proposals.
- Interfaces with operational staff in developing and pricing staffing profiles and coordinates subcontractor pricing targets and cost proposals.
- Utilizes cost modeling methodologies, tools and techniques and software to determine pricing costs and to create and maintain departmental pricing reports.
- Interfaces with vendors and merchandising associates determine pricing costs and related information to ensure that all material is obtained in a cost-effective manner.
Education And Experience Requirements
Bachelor’s degree with 5+ years of relevant experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must have computer skills preferably database programs. Requires the ability to understand company personnel policies and procedures. Must possess high personal attributes and ability to respect the confidential nature of assigned work.
Special Knowledge And Skills Required
- This position is located onsite at NASA JSC and requires US Citizenship.
- Proficient in Microsoft applications.
- Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
- Analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work in a team environment.
- Ability to keep sensitive and confidential material private.
Physical Requirements
- Must have the ability to communicate the English language both verbally and written in an effective manner.
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 40 lbs.
- Dexterity to operate office and field equipment as required by the position.
- In good physical shape/condition for climbing in and out of tight restricted working areas, as applicable.
Preferences
Previous NASA/JSC experience preferred.
Compensation Details
$110,000.00
