Cost Estimating Supervisor

About the role

You will lead the analysis and quoting of the company’s new business opportunities to support the creation of process and facility costs. This includes supervising engineering cost estimating resources, quoting new business and engineering changes, delivering customer technical presentations, and supporting internal and external cost reviews. The role works closely with the sales department to achieve strategic objectives.

Responsibilities

• Mentor, develop, and coach direct reports; drive standardization and accountability for performance.
• Foster an environment that encourages active participation of all team members.
• Directly supervise corporate cost estimating engineers.
• Plan and execute estimating activities on time and in line with corporate goals.
• Support Sales business development strategy and assess opportunities for strategic fit.
• Develop corporate, customer, and supplier relationships to anticipate needs, gather data, resolve concerns, and provide technical support.
• Align with sales to understand RFQ priorities and ensure alignment with the estimating team.
• Maintain and update the engineering cost model to ensure accuracy based on data from prior launches.
• Review Customer Quote Documentation (SOW, RASI, BOM, and CAD) to identify project requirements and develop a comprehensive list of questions.
• Prepare and present technical presentations for customer reviews, including cycle time analysis, equipment design, facility layout, material flow, error-proofing concepts, project timing, and program assumptions.
• Prepare project line-up information for awarded business to communicate quoted cost, timing, and program assumptions to the launch team.
• Serve as the primary Manufacturing Engineer interface with the customer during the new business award process.
• Collect cost data from internal departments, sub-contractors, and vendors.
• Maintain historical cost data.
• Quote large engineering changes on current business as requested.
• Evaluate new suppliers, products, and technologies to maintain a competitive edge.
• Determine required takt time and process efficiencies to establish accurate process cycle times.
• Determine assembly sequence, process steps, and methods based on customer-provided information.
• Accurately quote square footage requirements, capital investments (equipment, tooling, facility upgrades), and required direct/indirect labor.
• Assist the Engineering group with updating corporate design standards/specifications in Mechanical and Tooling areas.
• Assist Engineering in identifying and assessing new equipment OEMs, suppliers, and integrators.
• Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Management, Engineering, or a related field.
• Minimum of three to five (3–5) years of experience as a Manufacturing or Process Engineer or related discipline.
• Prior supervision experience.
• Experience in an automotive assembly environment.
• Experience leading process and equipment design.
• Cost estimating experience, including:
  • Direct and Indirect labor
  • Start-up cost
  • Capital Tooling
• Strong mechanical aptitude.
• Understanding of industrial control systems, safety systems, and error-proofing technologies.
• CAD skills:
  • 3D CAD viewing to analyze parts and develop processes
  • 2D AutoCAD to develop line and plant layouts
• Excellent presentation skills.
• Strong communication skills (oral and written).
• Ability to present information and respond to questions from managers, clients, customers, and the public.
