About the Role

The Cost Engineer assists and supports the project team with budget management, productivity tracking, project forecasting, subcontract management, and accounts receivable. This position works under the direct supervision of the Project Controls Manager and requires strong organizational skills. The Cost Engineer will work on the project site.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain project budgets, including reorganizing budgets due to changes in means and methods or additional work activities.
  • Support cost tracking, reporting, and forecasting by coding or reviewing timesheets, invoices, and other documents for accuracy.
  • Ensure adequate tracking of quantities and production on a weekly basis and communicate results to the project team.
  • Support the change order management process, including preparing cost estimates and negotiating additional work (e.g., Time & Material tracking).
  • Assist with monthly project cost forecasting.
  • Participate in subcontractor and material supplier quote analysis and negotiations.
  • Prepare quarterly project audits based on construction knowledge and input from the project team.
  • Provide supervision and on-the-job training to clerical and entry-level professional personnel as needed.
  • Assist with project close-out and maintaining, developing, and strengthening customer relationships.
  • Perform additional assignments as directed by the supervisor.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, business, or equivalent.
  • 3-4 years of construction experience.
  • Ability to read and analyze engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of contracts and contract language.
  • Ability to identify, prioritize, and mitigate project risk.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products and SharePoint.
  • Excellent analytical skills and ability to function effectively as part of a team.
  • Strong written and communication skills, with the ability to maintain discretion and confidentiality.
  • Good time management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to understand and follow directions.
