About the role
Vaco is working with a global holding company that is relocating corporate functions to Dallas to onboard a Cost Accountant to support the accounting for 3 of their plants.
Responsibilities
- Maintain and analyze standard costs for raw materials, work-in-process, and finished goods inventories.
- Review and reconcile inventory balances, ensuring accuracy and compliance with accounting policies and U.S. GAAP.
- Analyze manufacturing variances, including labor, material, overhead, scrap, and production efficiency variances.
- Monitor inventory transactions, cycle count results, and physical inventory adjustments.
- Partner with plant leadership to identify cost drivers and opportunities for operational improvement.
- Support annual standard cost updates and cost roll processes.
- Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual close activities related to inventory, cost of goods sold, and manufacturing operations for three production facilities.
- Prepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules.
- Ensure timely and accurate financial reporting of manufacturing results.
- Analyze financial performance and explain period-over-period fluctuations in manufacturing costs and margins.
- Assist with preparation of management reporting packages and operational performance metrics.
- Develop and maintain reporting and dashboards to monitor plant performance and key cost metrics.
- Partner with operations, procurement, and supply chain teams to improve cost visibility and financial decision-making.
- Support budgeting, forecasting, and long-range planning activities for manufacturing operations.
- Perform ad hoc financial analysis related to production, inventory, and operational initiatives.
- Ensure compliance with internal controls, accounting policies, and financial reporting requirements.
- Support internal and external audit requests related to inventory and manufacturing accounting.
- Identify opportunities to streamline close processes and improve reporting accuracy.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- 3+ years of accounting experience, including cost accounting within a manufacturing environment.
- Strong understanding of inventory accounting, standard costing, and manufacturing variances.
- Experience supporting month-end close and financial reporting processes.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including pivot tables, lookups, and financial modeling.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Able to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience supporting multiple manufacturing facilities.
- Experience with ERP systems such as SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics, NetSuite, or similar platforms.
