Cost Accountant

About the role

Vaco is working with a global holding company that is relocating corporate functions to Dallas to onboard a Cost Accountant to support the accounting for 3 of their plants.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and analyze standard costs for raw materials, work-in-process, and finished goods inventories.
  • Review and reconcile inventory balances, ensuring accuracy and compliance with accounting policies and U.S. GAAP.
  • Analyze manufacturing variances, including labor, material, overhead, scrap, and production efficiency variances.
  • Monitor inventory transactions, cycle count results, and physical inventory adjustments.
  • Partner with plant leadership to identify cost drivers and opportunities for operational improvement.
  • Support annual standard cost updates and cost roll processes.
  • Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual close activities related to inventory, cost of goods sold, and manufacturing operations for three production facilities.
  • Prepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules.
  • Ensure timely and accurate financial reporting of manufacturing results.
  • Analyze financial performance and explain period-over-period fluctuations in manufacturing costs and margins.
  • Assist with preparation of management reporting packages and operational performance metrics.
  • Develop and maintain reporting and dashboards to monitor plant performance and key cost metrics.
  • Partner with operations, procurement, and supply chain teams to improve cost visibility and financial decision-making.
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, and long-range planning activities for manufacturing operations.
  • Perform ad hoc financial analysis related to production, inventory, and operational initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with internal controls, accounting policies, and financial reporting requirements.
  • Support internal and external audit requests related to inventory and manufacturing accounting.
  • Identify opportunities to streamline close processes and improve reporting accuracy.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • 3+ years of accounting experience, including cost accounting within a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong understanding of inventory accounting, standard costing, and manufacturing variances.
  • Experience supporting month-end close and financial reporting processes.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including pivot tables, lookups, and financial modeling.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Able to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience supporting multiple manufacturing facilities.
  • Experience with ERP systems such as SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics, NetSuite, or similar platforms.
