About the Role
We are partnering with a leading manufacturing organization seeking an experienced Cost Accounting Consultant for a high-impact project. This fully remote contract opportunity will support key finance initiatives focused on strengthening cost accounting processes, improving financial controls, supporting audit readiness, and partnering with business leaders to drive operational excellence. The ideal candidate is a hands-on manufacturing cost accounting professional with deep expertise in standard costing, ERP systems, and process improvement who can quickly integrate into a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities
- Manage and analyze standard costing for manufactured products.
- Perform detailed manufacturing cost and variance analysis, identifying trends and recommending corrective actions.
- Support month-end close activities, including journal entries, reconciliations, and financial reporting.
- Ensure accurate inventory valuation of raw materials, work-in-process, and finished goods.
- Partner with operations, supply chain, and finance teams to improve costing accuracy and reporting.
- Support external audits and audit readiness initiatives by preparing schedules, documentation, and responding to auditor requests.
- Evaluate and strengthen internal controls and financial processes related to manufacturing accounting.
- Identify opportunities to improve reporting efficiency, cost controls, and accounting processes.
- Assist with ad hoc financial analysis and special projects as needed.
Required Experience
- Extensive manufacturing cost accounting experience.
- Deep expertise in standard costing and manufacturing variance analysis.
- Experience supporting external audits and audit readiness initiatives.
- Demonstrated success improving financial processes and strengthening internal controls.
- Strong risk and controls mindset with the ability to identify and mitigate financial risks.
- Microsoft Dynamics 365 (D365) ERP experience is required.
- Experience operating in complex manufacturing environments.
- Strong understanding of: Inventory Accounting, General Ledger, Journal Entries, Month-End Close, Financial Reporting.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
Preferred Qualifications
- CPA or CMA designation is a plus.
- Experience leading or supporting ERP implementations or system enhancements.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams.
