Cost Accountant
Position Summary
Seeking a hard-working, detail-oriented individual who is a team player to join our accounting team. This position will be responsible for cost accounting for our US Manufacturing sites. It will also serve as a strong business partner to management and provide actionable information on cost and profit.
Responsibilities
- Monitor and analyze manufacturing costs, including raw materials, labor, and overhead
- Maintain standard costs and update them periodically based on actual performance
- Support the month-end close process through cost variance analysis and journal entries
- Analyze inventory valuations and reconcile with general ledger accounts
- Support internal and external audits with cost-related documentation and analysis
- Aid in budgeting, forecasting, and cost modeling to support business planning
- Support the operations finance/manufacturing accounting functions by providing/assisting in plant reporting, compilation, and analysis, performing month-end close activities, performing bill of material maintenance, and assisting with product standard cost integrity
- Ensure costing integrity across all systems, transactions, and products
- Investigate and explain actual vs. standard variances with precision
- Ensure compliance with GAAP and internal accounting policies
- Monitor internal controls and identify opportunities for improvement
- Provide ad-hoc reporting as requested by management, owners, or project managers in a timely manner
- Take the initiative to develop and improve any accounting functionality that could improve the company's financial position
Required Experience & Knowledge
- Education/Experience: Bachelor’s degree in accounting/finance; 6+ years of related experience
- Specific Knowledge, Skills, Licenses, Certifications, etc.: CPA Certification is a plus; Cost Accounting background required; Public accounting experience preferred; Strong computer knowledge including Excel required; Knowledge of Sage X3 and Controller consolidation reporting desirable; Working knowledge of inventory accounting concepts, including inventory valuation methods, cost of goods sold (COGS), purchase price variance (PPV), and inventory reserves required; Proficiency in account reconciliation, variance analysis, and financial analysis, with the ability to identify trends, discrepancies, and potential financial risks required
