Job Duties
- Delivering instruction in all areas of cosmetology including: Sterilization, sanitation, and bacteriology.
- Hair Care: shampooing, rinsing, styling, shaping, coloring, relaxing, and permanent waving.
- Skin and Nail Care.
- Theory Instruction: anatomy, physiology, chemistry, Tennessee cosmetology law.
- Salon Operations: reception, desk operations, client scheduling, and dispensing.
- Soft Skills: interpersonal skills, shop ethics, and sales strategies.
- Technology: computer-based salon applications and software.
- Cooking up clinical/practical experiences and managing patron services.
- Maintaining accurate student records and documentation.
- Developing curriculum and instructional materials.
- Participating in student recruitment, placement, and follow-up of program completers.
- Engaging in professional development to remain current with industry standards.
- Monitoring, grading, and evaluating individual students’ performance and progress; maintaining appropriate documentation of student progress; preparing and submitting timely reports.
- Maintaining personal certifications and program accreditation.
- Participating in student organizations (SkillsUSA, National Technical Honor Society, etc.).
- Maintaining a well-organized, safe, and clean lab and/or classroom.
- Maintaining an active Program Advisory Committee and cooperating with outside agencies.
Minimum Qualifications
- A current, valid Cosmetologist license issued by the TN Board of Cosmetology required.
- A current, valid Cosmetology Instructor license issued by the TN Board of Cosmetology or ability to obtain license before program starts.
- A minimum of three (3) years of full-time experience.
- Teaching, training or salon management experience preferred.
Preferred Qualifications
- A current, valid Cosmetology Instructor license issued by the TN Board of Cosmetology.
