Corrosion Supervisor

Responsibilities

• Administer and continuously improve the company’s corrosion control programs for natural gas, crude oil, NGL, and associated facility assets.
• Provide leadership, technical expertise, and strategic direction for internal corrosion, external corrosion, cathodic protection, maintenance pigging, and integrity-related activities while ensuring compliance with applicable federal, state, and company requirements.
• Directly supervise and develop Corrosion Technicians and other assigned personnel; establish employee goals and performance expectations while providing necessary coaching, mentoring, and technical guidance.
• Coordinate daily work activities, schedules, and field priorities to ensure efficient utilization of personnel and resources.
• Promote and enforce a strong safety culture and compliance with company policies and procedures.
• Assist in workforce planning, recruiting, training, and succession development of corrosion personnel.
• Oversee all aspects of the company’s cathodic protection program, including design, installation, maintenance, testing, and troubleshooting of cathodic protection systems.
• Review and evaluate annual survey data, CIS, AC/DC interference, or any other applicable data.
• Direct investigation, prioritization, and remediation of cathodic protection deficiencies and external corrosion threats.
• Develop and execute monitoring and mitigation strategies to support long-term asset integrity and regulatory compliance.
• Review corrosion assessment data and make recommendations regarding repair, replacement, rehabilitation, and mitigation activities.
• Provide technical leadership for internal corrosion monitoring and mitigation programs affecting assets.
• Review corrosion coupon, ER probe, UT monitoring, fluid analysis, solid analysis, gas quality, bacterial activity, and chemical treatment data to identify degradation mechanisms and integrity threats.
• Develop and enhance corrosion control strategies including chemical treatment, inhibition programs, pigging programs, operational changes, and monitoring enhancements.
• Coordinate with chemical vendors, laboratories, service providers, operations, facility personnel, and foreign operators to optimize treatment effectiveness and program performance.
• Support failure investigations and root cause analyses involving corrosion-related incidents or equipment failure and degradation.
• Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations, including DOT PHMSA requirements and company standards.
• Maintain required documentation, records, and reports necessary to demonstrate regulatory compliance.
• Provide technical support during regulatory inspections, audits, and compliance assessments.
• Assist with development and maintenance of corrosion control procedures, standards, and operating practices.
• Collaborate with Operations, Construction, Engineering, Environmental, and Regulatory departments to assist in developing solutions that improve asset reliability and integrity.
• Participate in Management of Change (MOC) reviews and asset risk evaluations.
• Assist in annual budgeting, forecasting, and capital planning for all corrosion-related initiatives.
• Track and monitor KPI metrics to evaluate effectiveness and identify continuous improvement opportunities.
• Assist in the day-to-day maintenance pigging program activities; support field personnel towards internal corrosion mitigation strategies and operational reliability.
• Provide program performance updates and recommendations to Management.
• Serve as SME for corrosion control and mitigation activities.
• Maintain awareness of industry best practices, emerging technologies, and applicable industry standards.
• Supervise design and planning of new cathodic protection installations, deep well anodes, and rectifier stations.
• Evaluate adequacy of cathodic protection systems through periodic measurements.
• Develop, scope, direct, and support projects such as ultrasonic thickness monitoring surveys, close interval and other field surveys, data interpretation and analysis, monitoring, and mitigation of external corrosion.
• Provide a high level of internal corrosion control technical expertise and problem-solving for complex internal corrosion control, including site reviews, gas quality, analysis of corrosion coupons, liquid/solid sample analysis results interpretation, maintenance pigging, and other general internal corrosion monitoring and treatment systems.
• Coordinate activities of vendors providing internal corrosion control analysis and chemicals.
• Perform all other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• 10+ years of in-depth corrosion control experience and working knowledge of external and internal corrosion monitoring and mitigation of natural gas, crude oil, and natural gas liquid pipelines.
• Experience managing third-party contractors and corrosion service providers.
• Ability to analyze complex problems, interpret operational needs, and develop integrated solutions to issues impacting integrity, reliability, and/or compliance.
• Self-motivated and capable of working with minimal direct supervision.
• Working knowledge of various Federal and State pipeline regulations including Integrity Management regulations.
• Ability to handle stressful situations and respond to changing circumstances.
• Ability to effectively manage priorities while working with various types of people.
• Self-motivated and self-directed individual with good communication and computer skills.
• High school diploma or GED required.

Preferred Qualifications

• BS in Engineering (Mechanical, Chemical, or Metallurgy).
• Working experience and application knowledge of various pipeline industry-related standards such as API, ASME, NACE, NFPA, and CSA.
• Knowledge of DOT regulations and standards (49 CFR Part 192 & 195).
• Proficient in Microsoft applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.).
• Proficient in PCS-CPDM.

Working Conditions

• Office environment with prolonged periods of sitting and working on a computer.
• Outdoor work in adverse or extreme weather conditions.
• Frequent driving to other field facilities within the assigned region.
• Available outside of normal working hours as needed for business necessity.

• Ability to safely and successfully perform essential job functions consistent with ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.
• Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance.
• Ability to work effectively in all noted working conditions.
• Occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling up to 50 lbs. in a safe manner.
• Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license with a safe driving record satisfactory to the company.
