Corrections Utility Plant Operator - SCI Coal Township
About the role
This position plays a key role in maintaining the safe and efficient operation of the boiler plant and related systems within SCI Coal Township. It involves operating boilers, managing auxiliary equipment, testing water, overseeing inmate workers, and keeping the plant clean.
Responsibilities
- Boiler Operation: Maintain proper boiler function by reading gauges, performing maintenance, and managing emergency situations
- Auxiliary Equipment: Operate pumps, fans, feeders, and other support equipment to maintain plant performance
- Water Testing: Test boiler water and softening systems and maintain accurate logs of results and supplies
- Work Crew Oversight: Direct inmate workers, monitor movement, control tools, and maintain a secure work area
- Plant Housekeeping: Keep plant areas clean, organized, and stocked during daily operations
Requirements
- Minimum Experience and Training Requirements: Three years of experience in the operation, maintenance, and repair of a steam or hot water generating plant, or a steam and electric generating plant; or an equivalent combination of experience and training.
- Additional Requirements: Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
- Legal Requirements: Must pass a background investigation and meet CJIS compliance requirements.

Pay
Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $49,010 (before taxes). However, a higher salary may be established in accordance with the applicable collective bargaining agreement.
Schedule
Full-time employment, 40-hour work week. Work Schedule to be determined, shifts include 7:00 AM–3:00 PM, 3:00 PM–10:00 PM, and 10:00 PM–7:00 AM with rotating days off.
