Corrections Teaching Assistant
Location: Lino Lakes
Full-time, unlimited (permanent) position
Evening shift: 12:30 pm to 9:00 pm, Monday - Friday
About the Role
This position exists to provide support to the Education Department in meeting institutional educational goals at the Minnesota Correctional Facility – Lino Lakes. The role involves direct contact with students who are incarcerated.
Responsibilities
- Tutor students in reading, writing, math, and educational technology
- Operate and manage office equipment and educational program platforms, including monitoring and managing a computer lab
- Use email, calendar, presentation, word processing, database, and spreadsheet software applications (e.g., Microsoft Office or similar)
- Gather and maintain statistical and other data for reporting purposes through effective records management
- Work successfully with a diverse population using strong interpersonal skills
Requirements
- Experience in an educational or office setting
- Ability to read, speak, and write in English
- Ability to effectively operate office equipment
- Skills in records management sufficient to gather and maintain data
Preferred Qualifications
- Completion of an Associate’s degree or higher
- Classroom experience, including teaching, conducting training classes/workshops, and/or tutoring
- Experience working in an educational setting
- Experience working in a correctional setting
- Skill in educational program platforms sufficient to monitor and manage a computer lab
Physical Requirements
The selected finalist is required to review and sign a Physical Demands Analysis (PDA) for this position and may be required to complete a tuberculosis screening prior to hire.
Additional Requirements
- Top candidate(s) must pass a criminal history check, including successful completion of all sentencing and/or restitution requirements of law enforcement jurisdictions, including probation
- Employment history, reference checks, and review of job performance and discipline records, including incidents of sexual harassment, will be conducted
- New employees will be fingerprinted within the first 30 days of employment
- The Minnesota Department of Corrections does not sponsor applicants for work visas, including F-1 STEM OPT extensions; all applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States
Pay
$21.73 - $30.20 per hour
$45,372 - $63,057 annually
