CORRECTIONS PROGRAM SUPERVISOR/EXPERT
Location: DOC Headquarters in North Little Rock, AR. This position is designated as Safety Sensitive and subject to random drug testing. Medical marijuana use is prohibited for personnel in safety-sensitive positions, even with a registry identification card.
About the Role
The Corrections Program Supervisor/Expert oversees and manages the implementation and operation of correctional programs within the Arkansas Department of Corrections. This role ensures programs are effectively administered to meet the needs of offenders, supporting their rehabilitation and reintegration into society. The position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy.
Supervisory duties may be assigned based on the hiring agency's operational needs. Non-supervisory roles will serve as senior technical experts.
Responsibilities
- Supervise and manage the daily operations of correctional programs, ensuring compliance with state and federal laws, regulations, and standards.
- Develop, implement, and evaluate correctional programs designed to support offender rehabilitation and reintegration.
- Conduct needs assessments to identify gaps in services and develop appropriate programs to address these needs.
- Provide training, guidance, and support to staff involved in the delivery of correctional programs.
- Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of correctional programs, making adjustments as needed to improve outcomes.
- Prepare and manage program budgets, financial resources, and expenditures.
- Collaborate with facility staff, community organizations, and other stakeholders to ensure program success.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation related to program operations and outcomes.
- Ensure compliance with state and federal laws, regulations, and standards.
- Prepare reports on program activities, performance, and achievements.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Preferred Responsibilities and Skills
- Identify, review, and apply for grants and other funding opportunities.
- Understand theoretical and empirical literature related to corrections and rehabilitation.
- Communicate efficiently with team members and relevant stakeholders.
- Transition seamlessly between various group and individual assignments.
- Organize regular meetings and deliver project updates.
- Organize, write, and edit reports.
- Present research findings to staff and other stakeholders.
- Grant writing experience.
- Proficient in Excel.
Requirements
- The formal education equivalent of a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, public administration, social work, or a related field.
- Five years of experience in corrections, program management, or a related field.
Other job-related education and/or experience may be substituted for all or part of these basic requirements, except for certification or licensure requirements, upon approval of the Qualifications Review Committee.
Knowledge and Skills
- Comprehensive understanding of correctional practices, policies, and procedures.
- In-depth knowledge of rehabilitation and reintegration programs for offenders.
- Familiarity with program development, implementation, and evaluation.
- Proficiency in budget preparation and financial management.
- Ability to analyze and interpret data to assess program effectiveness.
- Competence in preparing reports and documentation.
- Aptitude for maintaining confidentiality and handling sensitive information.
- Familiarity with state and federal laws and regulations governing corrections.
- Ability to develop and implement effective correctional programs.
- Good writing and communication skills.
Pay
Anticipated starting salary: $63,086. Salary range: $63,086 - $93,367.
