About the role
The Michigan Department of Corrections is seeking Corrections Officers for various facilities within the Southern Region of operations. These positions are entry-level and involve overseeing and participating in the custody, security, and treatment of prisoners in correctional facilities.
Responsibilities
- Oversee and participate in the custody, security, and treatment of prisoners in correctional facilities.
- Learn and develop the interpersonal skills required to perform a range of corrections officer assignments.
- Complete the DOC Officer Recruit Training program, consisting of 8 weeks of academy training and 2 months of on-the-job training.
- Successfully complete the probationary period at an assigned correctional facility.
- Participate in the custody, security, and treatment of prisoners or detainees while learning and developing the interpersonal skills required to perform a range of corrections officer assignments.
- Pass a post-job-offer medical exam, drug screen, and physical fitness test.
- Continue to meet the requirements for continuing certification as a Corrections Officer.
Requirements
- Education: Completion of 15 semester (23 term) college credits in any field. Military Veterans: Acceptance of Joint Services Transcripts (JST).
- Experience: 8 years of full-time corrections officer experience in another local, state, federal, or private correctional institution, or successful completion of basic training in the uniformed services.
- Additional Requirements: Must be at least 18 years old, pass a post-job-offer medical exam, drug screen, and physical fitness test, and complete an approved eight-week corrections officer training program followed by eight weeks of on-the-job training.
