About the role
The Michigan Department of Corrections is seeking Corrections Officers for various facilities within the Southern Region of operations. Positions are available at Gus Harrison Correctional Facility, Lakeland Correctional Facility, Bellamy Creek Correctional Facility, Ionia Correctional Facility, Richard Handlon Correctional Facility, Charles Egeler Correctional Facility, Cooper Street Correctional Facility, Parnall Correctional Facility, G. Robert Cotton Correctional Facility, Thumb Correctional Facility, Macomb Correctional Facility, Woodland Center Correctional Facility, and Women's Huron Valley Correctional Facility.
Responsibilities
- Oversight and participation in the custody, security, and treatment of prisoners in correctional facilities.
- Learning and development of interpersonal skills required to perform a range of corrections officer assignments.
- Completion of DOC Officer Recruit Training program.
- Eight weeks of academy training and two months of on-the-job training.
- Annual training and continuing certification as a Corrections Officer.
Requirements
- Education: Completion of 15 semester (23 term) college credits in any field. Military Veterans: Acceptance of Joint Services Transcripts (JST).
- Experience: Eight years of full-time corrections officer experience in another local, state, federal or private correctional institution, or successful completion of basic training in the uniformed services.
Qualifications
- Age: Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age at the time of employment.
- Medical Exam: Must pass a post-job-offer medical exam.
- Drug Screen: Must pass a drug screen.
- Physical Fitness Test: Must pass a physical fitness test.
