Corrections Officer

Duties

• Makes rounds during meals, work, recreation, housekeeping, and visitation
• Distributes meals, medication, mail, and personal items to prisoners
• Escorts inmates to and from secured areas, confinement, and court
• Transports inmates to and from the facility as required
• Conducts routine security checks of jail areas and equipment
• Searches inmates and cell areas
• Conducts inmate head counts
• Handles inmate complaints, requests, and/or difficult situations
• Reports problems or unusual circumstances to superiors
• Affords assistance in the booking and processing of inmates
• Runs records checks and enters inmate information into the computer to generate required reports
• Prepares files on inmates
• Affords assistance in processing the release of inmates from the jail
• Prepares, types, and maintains jail activity reports, daily log, and other related documents
• Operates a control board and electronic doors
• Maintains observation of inmate activity through audio and video equipment
• Utilizes an intercom, paging system, and emergency system as necessary
• Attends staff meetings and training sessions as required

Qualifications

• Must be a United States Citizen
• Must be 18 years of age
• Must have a High School Diploma or GED
• Must have a valid driver's license and proof of insurance
• Must have a Social Security card
