Corrections Officer 3 - SCI Chester
As a Corrections Officer 3 with the Department of Corrections (DOC), you take on an important leadership role that shapes daily operations at the State Correctional Institution (SCI) at Chester. This position gives you the chance to guide staff, coordinate movement and activities, and support a well-run correctional environment. Description of Work
This position supports the supervision of staff and the daily operations that ensure discipline and order at SCI Chester. The role helps maintain proper inmate movement, monitoring, and compliance with institutional procedures. As a Corrections Officer 3, you will perform the following duties:
- Staff Supervision: Lead and evaluate correctional officers and ensure duties follow policies and regulations
- Daily Operations: Oversee schedules, inmate movement, and key activities throughout the institution
- Housing Unit Tours: Monitor living areas, address concerns, and observe inmate behavior
- Transport Oversight: Ensure proper processing and supervision for transports, visitors, and incoming materials
- Policy Enforcement: Investigate staff violations and recommend appropriate disciplinary actions
- Record Management: Review reports, maintain documentation, and participate in meetings and fact-finding sessions

Requirements
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- One year as a Corrections Officer 2 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
- Four years of experience in corrections security work in a Pennsylvania state or county corrections facility. (Persons seeking employment under this option will be required to successfully complete, or have completed, a training program conducted by the Department of Corrections.)
Other Requirements:
- Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
- PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title.
- You must be able to perform essential job functions.
Legal Requirements: You must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
Schedule
- Full-time employment, 40 hours per week
- Work hours will be determined, with set days off to be determined
- This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55
- Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position
