Description of work
This position provides classroom and on-the-job training in the electrical trade to inmates within a structured program. The work supports daily operations through instruction, supervision, tool control, and documentation.
Responsibilities
- Electrical Instruction: Teach installation, repair, inspection, and maintenance practices for electrical systems and equipment
- Classroom Training: Deliver curriculum content, maintain order, and document inmate progress and attendance
- Work Crew Guidance: Direct and oversee inmate work crews completing electrical work orders and inspect finished tasks
- Tool Control: Issue, inventory, and account for materials and tools during training and work assignments
- Material Planning: Determine needed tools and materials and submit purchase requests when required
Schedule
- Full-time employment, 40 hours per week
- Work hours are 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday - Friday
- This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55
- Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position
Pay
- Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $53,036.00 (before taxes)
- A higher salary may be established in accordance with the applicable collective bargaining agreement
Qualifications
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- Five years of experience in the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical wiring, fixtures, and equipment used in buildings; or
- Completion of an approved apprenticeship in the electrical trade; or
- An equivalent combination of experience and training which includes one year of journey level work in the electrical trade

- Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required
- You must meet the PA residency requirement
- You must be able to perform essential job functions
- You must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements
