This position is general corrections work involving the care, maintenance, order, and security in a correctional facility for staff and persons incarcerated.

Responsibilities

  • Booking new arrests and/or commitments/Releasing persons incarcerated from custody
  • Adults in custody and facility/cell searches
  • Daily facility routines, to include feeding, linen exchange, adults in custody visits, commissary delivery, and special adults in custody programs
  • Adults in custody are transported outside the facility
  • Supervising/monitoring facility adult workers in custody
  • Accurate computer data entry
  • Maintaining security, order, and discipline of adults in custody at all times
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

  • Graduation from a standard high school or possess GED certificate
  • Ability to read and write the English language
  • Possess a current Washington State Driver's license
  • Must have basic typing/keyboard skills
  • United States citizen, not less than 20 years of age. Candidates 19 years of age may apply to take this examination, but must be 20 years of age before hire date. A successful candidate will have delayed eligibility until the required minimum age is attained
  • Must have NO felony convictions
  • Must be able to successfully pass a background investigation, additional interviews, physical and drug testing, and polygraph examinations
  • Ability to pass the Criminal Justice Training Center physical ability standard before employment "for Corrections."
  • Once employed, the applicant must complete the Basic Corrections Academy and successfully pass the Academy Basic Corrections' physical ability admittance test, and the applicant must meet all required certifications and maintain all other standards necessary for the performance of their job duties

  • High School Diploma or GED

Pay

Starting monthly salary - Step 3 $6,108.25. Longevity steps 4-7 $6,413.66 - $7,424.61.

Employees are frequently required to work evening, night, weekend or holiday shifts.

Physical demands and work environment

While performing the essential functions of this job, the employee is regularly required to work in a detention/correctional setting and use standard office equipment and law enforcement devices and weapons, is occasionally required to drive a motor vehicle, run after and apprehend inmates, sustain dominance over unruly individuals, and lift and/or move up to and over 100 pounds. The employee is regularly exposed to hazardous situations which involve physically violent persons, mentally or emotionally disturbed persons, persons with infectious diseases, highly stressful situations, is frequently exposed to outdoor weather conditions, extreme heat or cold, toxic or caustic chemicals.
